There is an opening for postdoc position at NCB. The main topic of the project is neural correlates of predictive processing.
You are expected to:
- Have, or be at the final staging of having, a PhD in Neuroscience or related fields.
- Have at least one first-author paper related to Neuroscience from your PhD project.
- Be able to work within deadlines.
- Be fluent in python and/or MATLAB
- Have a solid background in neuroscience
- Have hand-on experience in neural data analysis (spikes & LFP)
- Have hands on experience in scientific writing
- Be able to work as part of a team
To apply:
Send your CV, published or under review papers, and PhD thesis to: ncbATipm@gmail.com. Also, arrange for at least two recommendation letters to be sent to the same email address.
Postdoc position at IPM is for three years, at the most, and subject to a yearly evaluation by an internal board. Extension of the contract is dependent on satisfactory progress. Postdoc at NCB is funded for one year. Funding for the following two years has to be secured through external funding agencies like CogC or INSF.
Interested students should apply through the Iran national doctoral exam and choose School of Cognitive Sciences (SCS) , IPM. SCS accepts students through cognitive sciences, electrical engineering, and computer engineering fields. If you are interested to join NCB for your PhD, please reach out to us beforehand.
We accept research interns for : a) psychophysics and cognitive modeling, and b) neural data analysis projects. Interns have the opportunity to be promoted to paid RAs, depending on the progress of the projects.
You are expected to be able to work within deadlines. Be fluent in, or be able to learn, python and/or MATLAB. Have a solid background in neuroscience. For that, you can watch videos from the IPM-Sharif course.
Psychophysics projects are with normal human subjects and are focused mostly on time perception and predictive processing. These projects are suitable if you are living in Tehran, or nearby cities for data collection. You are expected to be familiar with psychtoolbox, or be able to learn it. You can watch videos from a previous IPM-Tehran University course. You are expected to write the code for the task that is mentioned in Pourmohammadi & Sanayei (2023), collect data from yourself, and plot that data in the same format as in the paper.
Data analysis projects will be done on available datasets from rodents and primates. The emphasis of these projects is on the role of thalamus in behavior and cognition. These projects can be done remotely. You might have attended, or watched videos of Neuromatch Academy, and/or IPM Neural Data Analysis workshop. You are expected to be able to work with the dataset accompanying Steinmetz et al. (2019), and plot the neural responses from the thalamus in the same format as in the paper.
To apply: Please send your CV, a cover letter, and your plots, with the title of “NCB research position” to: ncbATipm@gmail.com. We evaluate applications in the first week of October and April, every year.
